Rules
Add some URLs above to build the rules.
Status code
Permanent. The usual choice for a migration.
Trailing slash
Query strings are kept. Same-site URLs become paths.
Copy the config
Paste this into your Nginx setup.
No rules yet. They appear here as soon as one pair is valid.
What it checks
Paste or match
Paste old and new pairs, or two plain lists and let it match them by path, slug and words.
Clean URLs
Same-site URLs become paths, query strings are kept, and trailing slashes follow your choice.
Loops and chains
Rules that point back at themselves, and chains you can collapse to a single hop.
Duplicates and conflicts
The same old URL listed twice, or sent to two different places.
Config for your server
Nginx, Apache .htaccess, Cloudflare and Netlify _redirects, vercel.json and next.config.js.
Download or CSV
Copy the rules, download the file, or export the whole map as a CSV.
Questions
Should I use 301 or 302?
Use 301, or 308, when the move is permanent, as in a migration. Search engines then pass the old page’s ranking to the new one. Use 302 only for temporary moves.
Why avoid redirect chains?
Each extra hop costs a round trip, often 100 to 300 ms on mobile, and search engines may stop following long chains. Collapse them so every old URL goes straight to its final page.
What if an old page has no new equivalent?
Send it to the closest parent page, such as the blog for an old post. The matcher suggests one, or the home page when there isn’t one. Sending many pages to the home page can be treated as a soft 404.
Are my URLs uploaded?
No. Matching and rule building run in your browser, so nothing leaves your device.
