Links whose only content is an image with no name.

  • Decorative images

Images correctly hidden with alt="" or aria-hidden.

  • AI alt text

Suggestions written from each image and the text around it, for up to 6 images.

An editable suggestion and an <img> snippet for each image.

Questions

What is sent to the AI?

Only the images that need alt text, up to 6 per check, plus the page title, main heading and the caption or text around each image. We send them to Google’s Gemini API to write the suggestions. We don’t send cookies or anything you type.

What makes good alt text?

Say what the image means in that spot, in under 125 characters. Skip “image of”. If the image is a link, say where it goes. If it’s purely decorative, use an empty alt so screen readers skip it.

When should alt text be empty?

When the image adds nothing a visitor would miss, like a background pattern or a divider, or when the text next to it already says the same thing. Use alt="", not a missing alt.

Why weren’t all my images described?

Free checks describe up to 6 images, largest first. We skip SVGs, files over 4 MB and images that don’t load, and we can’t see images added later by JavaScript or set as CSS backgrounds.
